That said, here are some circumstances in which you might want to hire another person--specifically a professional--to move your piano for you.

1. You don't realize that there's special equipment involved. Yep, it takes more than arms and legs to move a 1,000 lb instrument. If you don't have that equipment, and don't have the time or energy to research and buy it, go ahead and hire a pro.
2. You haven't moved anything heavy in a while. When you haven't moved a heavy object--whether it be a piano, a safe, a hay bale, or a fridge in the past few years and you're feeling out of practice, the piano is not a good place to start. Why? because it's a higher risk move than moving a fridge. Fridges don't go out of tune, fridges aren't 20k dollars, either. Trust the pros if you haven't had any experience in moving heavy stuff.

4. You have any underlying injury (like a strained wrist or back). If you remotely have an injury and don't feel strong enough to be part of the moving crew, now's a good time to hire a professional piano mover.
